Brent is new to our team of Owner Operators but has come in with a bang! His extensive moving background definitely shows on every move that he does, from extensive packing jobs for long hauls to maneuvering large pianos down staircases. Brent takes pride in his professionalism and organizes each move with his crew onsite to work quickly and efficiently.
Jacob Montgomery - 14 years - Vancouver
Jacob has been moving all his life. As a teenager he learned the business working with his dad. As he got older he had no doubt that becoming an Owner Operator was what he wanted to do, buy his own truck and run his own crew. Many clients call back for a 2nd, 3rd or 4th move with us asking specifically for him. He is a very hard worker, honestly loves what he does and it shows. The physical labor is what he likes the most and after a long day of moving he will normally hit the gym for a while before going home for the night.
Favorite kind of move: Jacob loves to move apartments- the higher, the better. Especially in the downtown core. He likes working with elevators and loves the challenge of working with higher end items that need the extra care of a professional mover. Not to mention the more moves he does, the more people he meets, which is always a bonus.
Favorite thing about moving: The fact that every day is different. The places he goes, people he meets, and interactions he has- there is never a dull moment and never the same office wall to stare at. Also, being a bodybuilder and all, Jacob LOVES to lift heavy things. He likes to push his limits of strength, and every day is a potential new challenge.
Hardest move: Moving a stone statue that was 700+ pounds up multiple flights of stairs...a challenge he almost didn’t meet! But 3 men and some time later they were able to get the job done!
Best advice: Try to get boxes that are all the same size. And of course, don’t stress out!
Andrew Johanson - Vancouver
Tim Collinge - 14 years - Vancouver
Tim is one of our most experienced movers we have. He started moving over 14 years ago working with 12 different companies before he decided to open up a business for himself.
He bought his first truck 6 years ago and was a mover with Owner Operator Movers from the start. He has since grown his company to 3 trucks and 9 employees.
Favorite kind of move: Anything move that is organized! Really, Tim is the man to go to for bigger moves, so his favorite kind of moves are the residential all day moves. Nothing with elevators or long hallways like apartments. Just give him the chance to show you how a full service household move is done with three men and you will see why they are his favorite!
Favorite thing about moving: Everything is different. The clients are new, the places you go always change, as well as the things you move. The change and challenges you can never get from being in an office- that is what makes being a mover so great.
Hardest move: If you can believe this: a Queen size rock bed- essentially 1 pc queen bed made out granite. It took four men, and they were scared to death because it they had to move it over a fence and if it would have fallen it would have broken their legs!
Best advice: Be thorough when you are describing your move to your move coordinator. The better information we have the smoother the move will go.
Greg Kosbudzki - Vancouver
James Tabbert - 5 years - Vancouver
James started his career in moving as a teenager doing deliveries for Ikea until he decided to step up his game and moved into the world of professional movers. He started working with one of our own Owner Operators for years learning how to move professionally and carefully while always putting the client first.
James has just this year challenged himself again and has bought his own truck and taken all the experience he has to invest in being an Owner Operator himself. We are excited to have James on our team!
Favorite kind of move: James has a small truck because he loves to do the apartments- especially in the downtown core. The tighter the spot the better the challenge! He also really enjoys moving antiques and higher value items. Client who have these kinds of items care about how they are taken care of and that give him the ability to shine! He loves to do moves with floor runners, extra wrapping and care, because that is where he is really able to wow his clients.
Favorite thing about moving: Being in a different place every day keeps this job interesting. And as you already know, new challenges are easy to find when moving, and James like to improvise to use what he learns from previous moves to always find solutions to a client’s moving problem.
Hardest move: James was once hired to move a structure of earth that was a centerpiece in the lobby of a building downtown. It couldn’t be grabbed because of the material, but also couldn’t be rolled because of the mountains. After 3 hours, 4 men many padded runners with more massive pads the globe finally made it on the truck. And all the hard work paid off in the end because there was no damage!
Best advice: Label your boxes, be prepared for the day, and think of your pets on move day- you would be surprised how many people forget-make sure to have food and toys accessible for them, it will help everyone on move day!
Eric Oneal - Vancouver
Michael O’bray - Vancouver
Jason Crone - 6 years - Vancouver
Jason Crone is a natural mover. He started his career six short years ago moving small odds and ends in Vancouver with a friend’s truck until he decided to take on moving full time. He bought his first truck in 2008 and has been working with Owner Operator movers since. He now owns 2 trucks and has 4 employees.
Favorite kind of move: Jason’s talent and passion for moving is obvious. Where many movers shy away from the expensive Residential moves in Vancouver, Jason delights in walking into a home where everything is high end and the client wants the best care possible for their belongings.
Favorite thing about moving: The feeling of accomplishment when he looks at the back of a loaded truck packed and protected properly. To him, it is not a loaded truck, it is a work of art.
Hardest move: Once moved a hot tub that so was big it would not fit in his truck- so they had to wrap and strap the whole thing with over 20 straps and move it on it’s side...anything to get the job done!
Fave quote from client: "I. am. never. moving. again!"
Best advice: Be as well packed as possible, clear a path and don’t forget to save us a parking spot!
Alex Sigulyev - 5 years - Calgary
Alex may be new to the moving world, but he is a natural. He started in construction, then made the shift to a moving company. He knew when he started though, moving was the place for him. Alex quickly went from a moving employee to an Owner Operator after only 3 months. He and his partner Ivan Terehov, worked on a small truck just the two of them until they bought another big truck this summer. Alex now runs the small truck and Ivan is on the big truck, both in partnership with OOmovers! We are delighted to have this team with us. Their track record may be short, but it is excellent!
Favorite kind of move: Alex prefers the small moves. He prefers apartments with elevators and fewer stairs, and move that he an get to and from quickly. He does not like to be at one job for too long- many jobs keeps the day interesting!
Hardest move: There was a piano that had to go upstairs...that may not sound so bad for a professional mover- but these stairs had multiple curves and and turns, which meant turning the piano on its side multiple times to get it up the stairs! It was 3 men, and not too long, but a true feat to finish the job without a scratch.
Favorite thing about moving: The people and the changes. No two days are ever the same, and neither are two clients. It is fun to meet new people and to learn to adapt to each new move. And, of course, owning your own business and earning money as your own boss is a great accomplishment.
Best advice: Call movers! We are the only ones that actually like to move!
Scott Herzog - 5 years - Calgary
Scott grew up farming in rural Alberta and has spent the majority of his working career in the oilfield, working all over western Canada. After a decade of living out of hotels and being on the road, he realized that there was more to life than chasing a career that led him away from loved ones. This brought him to the moving industry where he started up with a few family membersand hasn’t stopped since. He had been waiting somewhat impatiently for an opportunity like being an Owner Operator. Owning his own truck, working with his tight crew of men truly providing a quality move for his local community.
Favorite kind of move: The long hauls. You can take the boy out of the country, but you cant take the country out of the boy. He loves to travel the open road, taking in the scenery and enjoying the fresh air. There's nothing more peaceful than coasting through the country side with the windows down, whistling along to your favorite tunes!
Hardest move: Helping out in High River after the floods. Trampling around in knee deep water, removing salvageable goods and non, while working with a limited source of light. "You wouldn't believe how heavy something can be when its soaking wet and your carrying it through water!"
Favorite thing about moving: When the client tells you that you are the best movers they have ever had, or that they are so happy with the move that for some reason they feel gratitude. Guys! You don't have to thank us! We are thankful for the opportunity you have given us! We are exactly where we want to be! Home cooked meals are nice too :)
Tim Coderre - 3 years - Calgary
Tim has been a professional mover for the past 3 years, though he says he has been moving all his life! He is one of our "go-to" movers when we have a difficult piece that needs to be moved - what ever you need done he can usually find a way to make it happen.
Ivan Terehov - 5 years - Calgary
Unlike other movers Ivan has not been doing this all his life. When he started he didn't have much experience in the industry but as soon as he got going he found that it fit him like a glove. He started off his career as a swamper learning the ropes from another Owner Operator; the importance of good wrapping techniques to avoid damages, the correct ways to carry things so that no one gets hurt, maneuvering tips, etc. Soon he was ready to run his own crew and become and Owner Operator himself.
Favorite kind of move: Anything that is organized "Bring it on, whatever you want! As long as there is some order to the process the heavy lifting is no big deal".
Favorite part about moving: Ivan says that there is nothing like running your own crew, getting to know you team and working day in and day out together. Plus when I customer is satisfied, you feel good at the end of the day too.
Best advice to someone planing a move: Oragnization, organization, organization - the boxes and small things more than anything. Most people worry about the big furniture items but honestly when you have little items everywhere and you just want us to throw them in somewhere... it takes time because we don't want to damage even the small stuff.
Shawn Plantz - 5 years - Calgary
Calgary native Shawn has been working in the moving industry since 2008. He started working for his friend’s company until he decided to make the change to being his own boss in 2011.
Shawn started working with Owner Operator Movers as soon as he became an owner operator himself. His brother Cody has been partnering with him on his moves with OOmovers as well. Both have been a vital part of our moving team in the Calgary area since they started with us. (and possibly receive the most compliments!)
Favorite kind of move: Sean is one of our most flexible movers. He has the best outlook on moves; which is: they are all the same in the end. So whether it is an apartment, house, office or even a few pieces, Sean is up for the challenge.
Hardest thing ever moved: The hardest item ever moved was an 8 person hot tub. It took 14 guys and 5 hours to move it!
Favorite thing about moving: Nothing beats being your own boss. But more than that, meeting new people and having new challenges everyday makes being a mover interesting and different. There are not many jobs where you can find variety and enjoyment out of a job quite like this one!
Best advice: To be honest, plan the move the best you can, but be prepared that not everything will go as you planned. There are a lot of variables on move day, and the more flexible you are, the easier the move will be in the end.
Victor Rusu - 5 years - Calgary
Since Victor's change to being a mover, he has always wanted to be an Owner Operator. He started moving with his partner, also named Victor. Both Victors decided to team up with Owner Operator movers and Victor worked on all the OO moves.
Victor quickly realized he wanted to buy his own truck and have his own company. He bought his own truck and started working on a small truck with his own employees. He had enough success that he was able to buy a second truck. He know has two trucks and 4 employees working with him.
Favorite kind of move: Full day house moves. Not too large, and not to big...just right. The kind of moves that you start first thing in the morning and finish by dinner. He can even go up to 12 hours in a day, but he is not happy or his best if he or his guys have not had their sleep!
Hardest move: He once had a move that was supposed to be 2-3 appliances and it turned in to 23 subzero appliances! If you know anything about subzero- they are heavy and really expensive! He came to the move with 3 men- but each appliance weighed about 750 lbs. The clients also helped and in the end it took over 10 hours and about 5 men just to do the move!
Favorite thing about moving: Victor loves to meet new people everyday. More than that, he loves that he learns something new with each move- whether it be from the client, their house, their access, or what he is moving. Every day is new, and everyday is a chance to learn something new. Of course, doesn't hurt that being a mover is like having a free gym membership!
Best advice: Don't forget to have parking ready and Be prepared! Be packed 3 weeks before, not 3 hours before and label all the boxes properly. When the movers arrive, do not have loose items still around. They may seem like a little here and there, but at the end it takes a lot of time (and money!) to move the lingering items.
Andrei Binitchii - Calgary
Greg B - Vancouver
AJ Anderson - 14 years - Edmonton
AJ and his brother Ali are both Owner Operators and have been with the team for the past 5 years. Aj says that being a mover is hard work but always surprisingly rewarding. He is still always caught be surprise at how grateful clients can be when you have helped them through a successful move.
Favorite thing about moving: Aj enjoys being an Owner Operator because " It's great, both my brother and I get to be my own bosses and we have a great support staff to help us day in and day out."
Allen Anderson - 14 years - Edmonton
Allen, better known as Ali is always up beat and ready for a laugh. He has been a mover since 1990 and 5 years ago teamed up with his brother and they both became Owner Operators.
Hardest move: One of my most difficult moves was a 4th floor walk-up with almost 1000 bags and boxes. The job was estimated at 5 hours...it took us 13 hours, but we got the job done!
Dan Edwards - Vancouver
Ian Andrews - 20 years - Edmonton
Ian was raised in the moving industry. When he was 15 he started answering the phone at his dad’s company in Toronto. At 16 he started working on the trucks. It was not long before his dad realized that he was made for moving and gave him his own truck to operate in the family Business. He took a break from moving just long enough to get a degree Business Administration at university. When he came back started taking over more of the responsibilities of the business with his dad until he decided it was time to start his own company. In 2000, with 7 years of moving experience under his belt Ian took the plunge to being a full fledged Owner Operator in Toronto. He started small with a cube van, but within 2 years had a 5 tonne and a full business with employees. In 2005 Ian started spending his summers in Edmonton working and spending time with family. Just last year he permanently relocated to Edmonton, and couldn’t be happier with his decision. He now owns 3 trucks and works with his Brother Kevin and best friend Jason everyday.
Favorite kind of move: Ian loves apartments. He loves to be on his feet and keeping busy- and there is never a dull moment moving apartments! Also, he loves meeting and interacting with people, and there are a lot more people to meet and places to go when you are moving apartments.
Favorite thing about moving: "Moving fits me...I am somewhat of a work-a-holic I like keeping busy likes driving, and loves meeting new people. I do not NOT like staying in 1 spot staring at a wall!"
Hardest move: An ACTUAL outdoor pool- ALL in 1 piece. took 6 men to get off the ground, and took about 3 hours...and the move didn’t even leave the back yard!
Fave quote from client: "How are you so happy right now?"
Dave Boniface - 15 years - Victoria
15 years ago, started randomly because he had a truck, and he found a friend and they started moving, started the own company from there.
Favorite thing about moving: Keeps me young, good physical work. I couldn’t do a sit down job or and office job.
Hardest move: A piano one time strap broke when they were moving a piano while it was going down the stairs! It was touch and go for a minute, but they managed to get it done without a scratch.
Fave quote from client: Be organized- the more organized you are, the better it is for everyone.
